“So receive him in the Lord with all joy, and honor such men”
(Philippians 2:29, ESV)
The light of one who reflects Christ shines gloriously in this dark world. The illumination of Christ in one’s life has been said to be like entering a pitch-black cave, in which nothing can be distinguished, and then turning on the lights so that all can be seen clearly.
Everyday, the mysterious truth—that is, “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27)—takes shape in the lives of believers who have responded in humility to God. People who beam Christ are those who think not of themselves, rather they enjoy the presence of God more than any other. These are the ones who tirelessly give of themselves because God offered His Son in love to be a gruesome, bloody sacrifice on cross. They find delight in inconvenience and suffering because they recognize Christ is most displayed in them when they are weak.
Welcome these men and women with great joy! Listen to them; learn from them; honor them. For it is not the man or woman that we follow, but Christ in them.
