CCO Summer Institute
CCO staff gather together four times each year for training. In the summer, we meet for a week at Robert Morris University, located outside of Pittsburgh. At Summer Institute, I attend workshops and training sessions regarding a variety of themes, including: leadership development, theology, CCO vision, student evangelism and discipleship, missional strategies, and much more!
This year, I learned more about developing student leadership in a culture of relativism and post-modernism. Many students are generally focused on themselves and believe God is out of touch. But my job is to help them see that life is in fact all about God, and, for Christians, we are on mission with Him. Everywhere we go, everything we do is about fulfilling the mission of God. That’s what we’re called to. That’s how we are to live. This is a major shift in thought for students, but it is imperative to making disciples who will transform the world.
I am almost finished with my first two seminary courses at Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay, OH. I took Foundations in Theological Studies, which is an introductory course that prepares students to think, research, and write critically about difficult subjects. I also took a class called Church in Mission. This course provided me with a solid biblical framework for understanding God’s mission and practical ideas for becoming more effective in sharing the gospel on campus.
Evaluate, Pray, & Prepare
Because the majority of my time during the academic year is spent with students, the summer is a great time for me to evaluate the ministry, pray for a renewed vision, and prepare for the coming fall semester.
Would you join Sara and me in prayer for the following items?
– Clear short-term and long-term vision for the ministry.
– Connections with new students this fall.
– Three new student-led life groups (Bible studies) starting in the August. The current leaders names are Johanna, Kelci, Amanda, Evie, and Jessica.
Please pray for more student leaders in the ministry, specifically for male leadership. The campus is composed of 63% women and only 37% men.
August 28 Kick-Off Event – Mike will be preaching at Gateway. Lunch & games for students following the third worship service.
New ministry partners (financial supporters & volunteers).
One of my big goals for the year is to personally share the gospel more strategically on campus as well as train students to do the same. Pray that God will provide opportunities to share.
Thank you for your prayers & support!
It is a joy to serve Jesus with you!
